Sponsored Account Request

Service Overview:

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) offers users whose affiliation to the institution is transitory, periodic, to participate in Institute-related work under limited circumstances. Sponsored accounts are designed for an individual who is not a WSSU student, faculty member, or staff member and may be granted for a variety of reasons, including contractors who manage WSSU resources, volunteers, visiting faculty, and external research collaborators.

Sponsoring an Account

For a person to receive a sponsored account, an active WSSU faculty or staff member must sponsor him or her. WSSU employees must read and agree to follow the terms and conditions, signing off that they accept the responsibilities associated with sponsorship. Sponsors are responsible for having a legitimate reason for requesting an account for a sponsored account.

Students, alumni and other affiliates may not request sponsored accounts, and current employees and students may not be granted a sponsored account until  after they have left WSSU employment. An application is initiated by the sponsor and requires the person requesting the account to provide information to confirm their identity. Please allow 3 business days for processing.

Sponsor Account Holder Responsibilities

Individuals receiving a sponsored account are responsible for complying with WSSU’s policies as well as applicable laws and regulations prior to accessing university information resources. Should a person with a sponsored account violate WSSU’s policies or applicable laws, they will have their account terminated.  Individuals are also required to complete Information Security Awareness training within 14 days of activating the account.

Sponsored Account Lifecycle

By default, sponsored accounts will be given access for a period of 120 days, after which the sponsor may renew the access. If preferred, the sponsor can request shorter periods of access but never longer periods. Sponsors are encouraged to set the duration times for the shortest time possible, with the understanding that accounts may be renewed if continued access is needed.

A sponsored account's access is subject to revocation by university executive management or the sponsor at any time.

Services Provided for Sponsored Accounts

Centrally provided services that may be granted to the sponsored account include a RamID, access to services and databases from O’Kelly Library, email and OneDrive for Business for file storage. Additional access to applications utilized within the sponsoring department may be requested upon review.
