Dependency Questionnaire

Service Overview:

Many students assume they are independent because they currently live on their own or because their parents no longer claim them on their income tax return. Others assume they should be considered independent because their parents refuse to provide information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or because their parents cannot afford to help with college expenses. These reasons, however, are not sufficient for an appeal. The Office of Financial Aid is required to consider parental information and expect a parental contribution for students who cannot answer “Yes” to any of the Dependency Status Questions on the 2022-2023 FAFSA unless exceptions are warranted.
