The purpose of the EPS is to define the standards for enterprise and project portfolio management and maintain protocols during project execution.
- EPS develops and coordinates performance metrics, measurement dashboards, and assessment structure.
- EPS ensures quality assurance and compliance utilizing key performance indicators (KPIs).
Enterprise Project Management (EPM) is the discipline of managing multiple projects happening at the same time within an organization.
A Project is a temporary endeavor designed specifically to create a unique product, service, or result.
- It is an individual or collaborative task that is designed to achieve a specific objective(s).
- It is a planned undertaking with the goal of solving a problem or completing an objective.
Project differences:
- EPS - Project Requests: Is classified as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create or update a unique product, service, or result; generally requires 40 hours or more of total time to accomplish.
- IT - Service Request: Is classified as a variety of work performed by the unit which includes, but not limited to: software upgrades, clones, Banner reports, data import or extracts.
- IT - Incident Request: Is used to report problems, issues, and errors with an existing service which includes, but limited to: pc repairs, network and Banner outages.
EPS Vision
To implement successful project management leadership principles within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) in support of the University’s strategic plan.
EPS Mission
- The EPS unit will ensure execution of the University’s strategic objectives by:
- providing portfolio management leadership and governance structure for all projects;
- facilitating and monitoring project management documentation and benchmarks;
- providing timely support of information technology resources to University;
- providing consultation, mentoring, planning, and training support for all projects;
- providing structure for performance measurement dashboards and assessments;
- ensuring a systematic approach for quality assurance and compliance standards.
The EPS unit will Develop & Maintain Standards:
- To develop and maintain a standard set of portfolio and project management protocols.
- To establish portfolio and project governance policies.
- To establish and implement portfolio and project assessments, metrics, and measurement dashboards.
- To develop and maintain quality assurance guidelines and standards.
The EPS unit will Provide Products & Services:
- To provide portfolio and project management protocols, processes, and tools.
- To provide portfolio and project management training and development support.
- To provide a communication and tracking structure for portfolio management.
- To provide a central tool for managing process improvements across the University.
The EPS unit will Train/Coach/Mentor:
- To provide portfolio and project management training to OIT’s leadership and staff.
- To coach and mentor project managers and teams on tools, processes, and methodology.
- To provide a project management leadership and development programming.
- To keep abreast on best practices in the field of project management and compliance.
The EPS unit offers various tools, services, and resources:
- EPS provides comprehensive training sessions and knowledgebase articles (KB) to accomplish the project management process.
- EPS provides standardized project management documentation using KB Articles to assist through the process.
- EPS provides project consulting on initial project development sessions.
- EPS tracks and identifies project activities required to achieve pre-defined project results through metrics & dashboards.
- EPS develops and maintains quality assurance guidelines and standardization protocols.
