Body

A project management overview to accomplishing project objectives through the application and integration of project management processes.

Enterprise Project Management (EPM) is the discipline of managing multiple projects happening at the same time within an organization.

  • EPM does not involve the detailed management of any particular project.
  • EPM involves aligning all projects with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • EPM involves managing all the organization’s projects simultaneously.
  • EPM involves managing projects so that they align with top-level goals.
  • EPM involves managing the dependencies that exist between projects.
  • EPM involves assisting each project to finish on-time and on-budget.

Project Management is the application of processes, methods, knowledge, skill-sets, and experience to achieve project objectives or outcomes.

  • Planned objectives may be defined in terms of outputs, outcomes, or benefits.
  • The #1 priority in project management is establishing planned objectives.

The Project Plan evolves as the project moves through the various stages.

  • It is a formal, approved document that is used to manage and control a project.
  • It is a unique document that is expected to change over time; evolves as the project moves through various stages.

Project Management process is important to department because it allows:

  • to maximize the value of the project resources allocations
  • and time commitment

Project Management process is important to sponsor because it allows:

  • to understand the proposed project request,
  • and their potential commitment level.

Project Process Groups:

  • The Initiating Process Group defines your project and obtains authorization to complete your goals (PMI, 2021).
  • The Planning Process Group establishes the scope, define and refine the objectives, and develops the course of action (PMI, 2021).
  • The Executing Process Group involves carrying out all the work which are planned during the Planning process group (PMI, 2021).
  • The Monitoring and Controlling Process Group involves tracking reviewing and orchestrating the progress and performance of the project; while identifying areas in which changes to the plan are required; and initiating the corresponding changes (PMI, 2021).
  • The Closing Process Group involves concluding all activities across all Project Management Process Groups, which includes formally completing the project, phase, and/or contractual obligations (PMI, 2021).
